4 Podcasts like My Favorite Murder

Is there anything better than snuggling up on the couch with a glass of wine and listening to Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark talk about what they watched that week? I mean sure, we are all tuned in for the true crime story of the week but these two ladies have made listening to book and tv show recommendations seem like a part of the story.

Back in 2016, Kilgariff and Hardstark created the podcast with the idea of combining comedy and true crime. Honestly, I have no idea how they thought it would work. I mean, true crime and comedy, in the same room – is that even allowed?!

The answer is yes and to be perfectly honest, this duo nailed it. The comedy bits in their storytelling make the most horrific crimes more digestible.

If you don’t want to take my word for it, My Favorite Murder ranked 3rd on Rolling Stone’s list of the Best true crime podcasts of all time. Only to be outranked by the true Dr. Death in the number two spot. If you’re a hardcore true crime podcast fanatic, then you already know that the OG Serial came in at spot number 1.

If you are as obsessed with My Favorite Murder as we are but you’ve finally finished binge-listening to all of their episodes, take a look a some of the podcasts below that give us the same vibes.

1. Morbid

If you haven’t had the chance to listen in on Ash and Alaina telling some of the most horrific cases in a light-hearted way, then I strongly suggest downloading a few episodes of Morbid now.

Morbid has recently joined the Wondery network so you can expect to hear three episodes a week if you listen to the podcast on Amazon Music.

The beauty of this duo is that they are hilarious without even trying to be funny. They rarely ever edit out their little bloopers and love laughing at themselves ( and each other) whenever they get tongue-tied and mispronounce a word.

These co-hosts consider themselves sisters and you can feel their close bond while listening to the episodes. If you want to feel like you are in the room with your friends talking about true crime, then this is the podcast for you.

2. And That’s Why We Drink

Listen on: Apple Podcasts | Spotify

I’m not going to lie, this one had to grow on me a bit but now I’m a weekly listener of this show. Em Schulz and Christine Schieffer are very transparent with their fans which makes them so relatable and easy to listen to.

If you were a listener from the beginning, I love that we got to grow with the hosts as they moved apart, had a baby, and learned about their health issues (which are hopefully over for now).

You can expect a new episode every Sunday that has two parts. Schulz usually takes the lead by telling a paranormal story that ranges from cryptids, ghosts, hauntings, and possessions. Schieffer follows up with a chilling true crime story that will remind us of how cruel the world can be.

Despite these paranormal and true crime stories, these ladies make the podcast seem like a comforting and safe place to be.

3. Sinisterhood

Listen on: Apple Podcasts | Spotify

This podcast is hosted by two comedians that are based out of Dallas, TX. Christie Wallace and Heather Mckinney provide a good variety of true crime and paranormal stories on their podcast. Many reviewers of this podcast mention how hilarious the hosts are but also mention how well-researched each episode is.

This show kicked off in May of 2018 and in less than a year, it was iTune’s Top 10 Comedy podcasts chart. It has also been featured in Women’s Health, Marie Claire, Vulture, and AV club.

Mckinney is a licensed attorney that has helped pro bono for The Innocence Project and represented victims of crime at legal aid. She also helps guide the listeners that don’t know much about law, on why some cases unfold the way they do.

Another positive is that you have 3 years of episodes to catch up on if you’re listening in 2023. Am I the only one that loves a good podcast binge?

4. Last Podcast on the Left

Listen on: Apple Podcasts | Spotify

So far on the list we’ve been showing a lot of love to the ladies and non-binaries of the podcast world, so I wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t shout out the lovely gentlemen at the Last Podcast on The Left. The hosts Ben Kissel, Marcus Perks, and Henry Zebrowski cover all things from true crime to the paranormal.

On their site, www.lastpodcastontheleft, they state, ” THE LAST PODCAST ON THE LEFT COVERS ALL THE HORRORS OUR WORLD HAS TO OFFER BOTH IMAGINED AND REAL. FROM DEMONS AND SLASHERS TO CULTS AND SERIAL KILLERS, THE LAST PODCAST IS GUARANTEED TO SATISFY YOUR BLOOD LUST.

Whoa, spooky!

With that being said the hosts keep it fun with the banter that they engage in on the podcast. It can seem all over the place at some parts, but if you keep listening I promise they will eventually loop back to the original topic.
